Teeth Whitening in Clifton Hills, VIC

Teeth whitening is a common cosmetic dentistry procedure because it is non-invasive and can help enhance the appearance of natural teeth.

While you can find a number of store-bought whitening kits, it’s important to understand that dentists have access to professionally regulated whitening products that allow for customised treatment and clinical oversight. Over-the-counter whitening products vary in strength and application method. Professional supervision helps ensure the product is used safely and effectively.

In-Chair Teeth Whitening

In-chair whitening can help lighten surface staining caused by food, beverages, or ageing. Results vary depending on the cause and depth of discolouration.

We apply a barrier to the gums to protect them from the peroxide solution. The whitening gel helps lift surface stains, resulting in a lighter tooth shade for many patients. When the gums are protected, we will apply the whitening gel to the teeth and leave it on the teeth for about 20 minutes. Our team will repeat the process several times over a period of about an hour or until we reach the desired results.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening

We will take digital impressions of the teeth to create teeth bleaching trays that fit the teeth securely and keep the gel in place. A small amount of gel for each of your front teeth within the tray is enough to bleach away stains. You can wear your trays for about an hour or so per day for a couple of weeks.

How to Maximise Teeth Whitening

It’s best to start any teeth whitening system immediately following a dental clean. Your hygienist will polish away surface stains and remove tartar from the surfaces of the teeth, making it possible for the teeth whitening solution to come into direct contact with teeth.

Teeth are particularly prone to stains immediately following any bleaching procedure. It’s best to avoid staining foods and beverages for a few days following whitening. If you can’t give up your morning coffee or evening red wine, rinsing the mouth with plain water after consumption will help prevent stains on the teeth.
