Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is our most popular cosmetic dentistry treatment because it is an affordable and non-invasive way to improve the appearance of the teeth. At Clifton Hill Dental, we offer both in-chair and take-home whitening options to accommodate the needs of our patients.

Why Choose Professional Teeth Bleaching

While you can find a number of store-bought whitening kits, it’s important to understand that only your dentist has access to the high-powered professional whitening systems we offer at our Clifton Hill dental clinic. Additionally, many over-the-counter teeth bleaching products contain abrasives that can scratch enamel, cause sensitivity and result in only mediocre results.

When you choose to whiten your teeth under the supervision of an experienced dentist, you will have a customised whitening system designed with you in mind. We choose a whitening gel agent that can accommodate patients’ needs – including those with recession and sensitive teeth.

In-Chair Teeth Whitening

If you want a whiter smile immediately, our in-chair teeth whitening procedure can remove years of staining from wine or coffee consumption, the normal ageing process and stains caused by colourful food.

We apply a barrier to the gums to protect them from the peroxide solution that whitens the teeth by bleaching away stains and discolouration. When the gums are protected, we will apply the whitening gel to the teeth and leave it on the teeth for about 20 minutes. Our team will repeat the process several times over a period of about an hour, and you will leave the surgery with a much brighter smile.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening

Many patients choose to complement their in-house whitening treatment by continuing it at home with custom whitening trays, or patients can also choose the take-home option on its own.

We will take digital impressions of the teeth to create teeth bleaching trays that fit the teeth securely and keep the gel in place. A small amount of gel for each of your front teeth within the tray is enough to bleach away stains. You can wear your trays for about an hour or so per day for a couple of weeks.

How to Maximise Teeth Whitening

It’s best to start any teeth whitening system immediately following a dental clean. Your hygienist will polish away surface stains and remove tartar from the surfaces of the teeth, making it possible for the teeth whitening solution to come into direct contact with teeth.

Teeth are particularly prone to stains immediately following any bleaching procedure. It’s best to avoid staining foods and beverages for a few days following whitening. If you can’t give up your morning coffee or evening red wine, rinsing the mouth with plain water after consumption will help prevent stains on the teeth.

Do You Want Whiter Teeth?

We invite you to get in touch to arrange a teeth whitening consultation with Dr Nick Malamas or our oral therapist who can each explain the teeth whitening process to you and help you choose the cosmetic dentistry option that will give you the results you’re after.
